I have always wanted to be a model but i need to go to a modeling agency to start my dream. I got excepted into Barbizon but if it was a good modeling agency then i would not have to pay that much money. How can i find one and know that it’s not a scam?

You should not have to pay ANY money. Stay away from Diesel too.

DO NOT PAY!!!!! DON’T DO IT. Please any company that is going to take you on will be the ones to give you the money. They should arrange your portfolio. Check out this agency:
part of the info on their website sates “Lots of girls and boys want to get into modeling. Many are being exploited by unscrupulous adults posing as bogus model agent. Girls as young as 15 are spending up to £500 on portfolios of pictures that are useless and being sold false promises of a successful modeling career.
Storm offers experienced, professional and caring advice on the correct procedures for getting into modeling, and we can also advise about the possible dangers.”
I am not sure where you live but Storm is one of the best agencies in the UK. Alek Wek is signed to her. You can even submit your photo to them.
Think which models you look up to. Research which agency hey are signed to and approach it from there, they will be able to direct you and tell you how to get into the business. You need to inform yourself about who is who. So that you an avoid any sharks who want exploit your innocence. If anything go with a supportive adult/ friend.
Wish you all the best and DO NOT PART WITH YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY! xxxx
BARBAZON IS NOT AN AGENCY!!! its a school, and a horrible one at that. you didnt get “accepted”, because they “accept” anyone who can pay their ridiculous fees. do not go there. ever. a real agency will never ask you for a dime up front, and will not ask you to shoot with a particular photographer that you have to pay for shots. legit agencies do not have schools and dont have joining fees. legit agencies are extremely competitve- modeling really has to choose you, you dont always get to choose it. to be signed with a REAL agency, you need to be 5′9 or taller(and not just for runway; for some reason a lot of girls think you only have to be tall for runway, which is not true) , wear a size 2 or 4, which is considered a sample size, have specific measurements that fall within one inch of 33-24-34 (bust/waist/hips), have very long legs, great skin, straight, white teeth and a unique look that stands out in a sea of gorgeous girls desperate to get signed. its incredibly difficult to get an agency to sign you, so if you dont meet ALL of those requirements i listed and one is interested, unfortunately, its a scam. barbazon was investigated on dateline, and a short, overweight woman was sent in for an interview and they “signed” her too- they take anyone who is naive enough to throw their money away, so dont fall for it. finding out if an agency is legit is easy- google its name + “scam” and if any complaints come up, its not legit. thats all. you really have to live near a big fashion city in order to have a shot at becoming a model- meaning nyc, chicago, miami and los angeles- other than that, there wont be much work, and thus legit agencies wont have offices there. elite, ford, wilhelmina, storm and new york model mgmt are the top agencies, but again, they are only located in those cities and are extraordinarily competitive.
